The Fritillaria persica, also known as the Persian crown imperial, is a special spring bloomer with an elegant and exotic appearance. This impressive bulb originates in Cyprus, Turkey, Iran, and Syria and is beloved for its deep, dark purple flowers and stately growth habit. Thanks to its unique shape and intense color, this fritillaria is a real eye-catcher in any border.
The plant develops a sturdy flower stalk approximately 100 cm tall, surrounded by decorative blue-green leaves that grow alternately along the stalk. At the top, a long cluster appears containing dozens of bell-shaped flowers in a rich dark purple hue. The flower cluster can reach a length of about 30 cm and blooms in April and May. Although the flowers are not fragrant, they provide a luxurious and striking appearance in the garden.
Fritillaria persica grows best in full sun or partial shade. Plant the bulbs at a depth of approximately 15 cm and maintain a planting distance of 20 to 25 cm. For a beautifully full effect, about 20 bulbs per m² are recommended. This species is less suitable for naturalizing or container planting, but comes into its own perfectly in borders and as an exclusive cut flower in bouquets.
With its architectural form and mysterious color, Fritillaria persica is perfect for lovers of unusual flower bulbs and stylish spring gardens.
