Rarity that needs warmth with long pods.

'Asparagus beans' are very striking with their green pods, which grow up to 60 cm long. They should only be grown in very warm locations. In the right conditions, the young pods, which taste sweeter than pole beans, can be prepared in the same way. They can also be frozen.

Asparagus beans originate from Asia, can grow up to 100 cm long, and are very popular. Metro Black produces black beans. The plants are very vigorous and require support for climbing.

Sow indoors directly in small pots from early April at 20–25°C, or direct sow in warm locations from mid-May to mid-June in rows, similar to pole beans. Harvest period: from late July to October.

Fertilization is usually not necessary. Avoid waterlogging and wet tillage. Later topdressing is recommended.
