Lobelia erinus pendula 'Saphir' is a beautiful trailing lobelia with an abundance of intense sapphire blue flowers. Thanks to its gracefully cascading growth, this annual summer bloomer is ideally suited for hanging baskets, balcony planters, flower pots, and tall planters. The long, profusely flowering shoots create a striking waterfall of blue flowers throughout the summer.
Unlike compact-growing lobelias, 'Saphir' develops longer, supple shoots that hang gracefully over the edge of a pot or planter. The plants reach a height of about 15 to 20 cm, while the tendrils can grow considerably longer. The small, deep blue flowers have a characteristic light center and appear in large numbers.
The flowering period usually begins around June and, with good care, can last until September or October. 'Saphir' is beautiful as a solitary plant in a hanging basket, but can also be excellently combined with, for example, petunias, verbena, and other colorful summer flowers.
Sow Lobelia erinus pendula 'Saphir' indoors or under glass from February to April. The very fine lobelia seeds are distributed superficially on moist sowing soil and barely covered. During germination, ensure sufficient warmth, light, and consistent moisture. The young plants can be moved outdoors after the last night frost.
Place this trailing lobelia in sun or partial shade and use nutritious, well-draining potting soil. Water regularly during warm days, as plants in hanging baskets can dry out quickly. Regular fertilization supports long-lasting and abundant flowering.
