Lobelia erinus compacta 'Kaiser Wilhelm' is a classic, profusely flowering garden lobelia that forms a sea of intensely gentian-blue flowers throughout the summer. Due to its low, compact growth, this annual summer bloomer is particularly suitable for borders, flower boxes, pots, and the edges of flower beds. Furthermore, the fresh blue flowers combine beautifully with white, yellow, pink, and other blue summer flowers.
'Kaiser Wilhelm' belongs to the compact group of Lobelia erinus. The plants remain low and develop into dense clumps about 10 to 20 cm high. Countless small blue flowers appear above the fresh green foliage. The flowering period typically runs from June to September or October, allowing this lobelia to add color to the garden, patio, or balcony for months.
Sow Lobelia 'Kaiser Wilhelm' indoors or under glass from February to April. The very fine seeds are sown on moist potting soil. Young plants can be planted outdoors in the spring after hardening off, once the risk of frost has passed.
Preferably choose a location in full sun or light partial shade. Lobelia prefers nutritious, well-draining soil that remains sufficiently moist during the growing season. Therefore, do not allow plants in pots and planters to dry out completely. Lightly pruning spent plants in the summer can stimulate the formation of new flowers.
With its compact growth and striking blue flowers, Lobelia erinus compacta 'Kaiser Wilhelm' is an excellent choice for colorful summer plantings and low flower borders.
