Description

Beautiful selection of Hungarian origin.

Sonca, short for Sonkatök = ham pumpkin, is initially green and turns bright orange when fully ripe.

The variety produces fairly early yields, produces large numbers of fruits, and at 1–1.5 kg, is the ideal portion size. The flesh is of excellent quality: dark orange, firm, and solid.

To harvest fully ripe fruits, we recommend pre-cultivation and planting out.

Maturation time: 110 days.

Moderate climbing growth behaviour.

Cucurbita moschata requires a lot of warmth and is therefore best cultivated in advance. Varieties with a ripening time of up to 110 days also thrive in colder regions.

Optimal germination occurs at 24–30°C. When sowing, hold the pointed end of the seed downward or lay it flat. Do not keep the seed too moist. After germination, place it in a bright, cool location.

The planting distance for pumpkins depends on the tendril behaviour.

Possible pests: snails, birds, mice, aphids, mildew, viruses.
