Description

Cucurbita moschata – Nutterbutter BIO: Organic compact nutmeg pumpkin

The Cucurbita moschata Nutterbutter BIO is an organically certified butternut squash variety, ideal for hobby gardeners and professional growers who want to cultivate sustainably and environmentally friendly. This variety combines the classic characteristics of Nutterbutter – aromatic, sweet, and creamy flesh – with organic cultivation characteristics, such as healthy plants, robust fruit development, and a high flavor quality.

Appearance and characteristics of the fruits

Nutterbutter BIO produces small to medium-sized fruits, typically weighing between 1.5 and 3 kilograms, with the typical butternut squash shape: a short neck and a round body. The skin is smooth, firm, and light orange to beige. It is fully organically grown, making the fruits safe and sustainable for consumption.

The flesh is deep orange, creamy, aromatic, and sweet, with a subtle nutty flavor. The compact seed cavity makes much of the fruit edible, allowing it to be efficiently used in a variety of culinary applications.

Organic cultivation properties

Nutterbutter BIO belongs to the Cucurbita moschata family, making the plants heat-hardy, robust, and often disease-resistant. The vines are short to medium-sized and develop strong leaves that protect the fruit from sunburn and dehydration. This variety is particularly suitable for smaller gardens, pots, and organic vegetable gardens.

Important organic cultivation characteristics:

  • Organically certified nutmeg pumpkin variety

  • Aromatic, creamy and sweet flesh

  • Reliable fruit set and high yield per plant

  • Shorter tendrils ideal for small gardens and pots

For optimal growth, Nutterbutter BIO requires full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Sow indoors from April or outdoors from late May, as soon as the soil temperature is above 15°C. Regular watering and mulch promote healthy plants and high fruit quality.

Culinary applications

The aromatic and creamy flesh of Nutterbutter Organic is exceptionally versatile. Their compact size makes them ideal for individual portions or dishes where smaller pumpkin pieces are desired.
