Longue de Nice produces green, slender, long fruits that turn ochre as they ripen. They resemble elongated butternut squashes.
The flesh is solid and dark orange, with only a small seed cavity. Longue de Nice is suitable for almost all cooking purposes.
As the name suggests, Longue de Nice comes from France and has become a rarity in seed catalogs.
Maturation period: 120–140 days.
Rank behavior: strongly ranking.
Cultivation advice: Cucurbita moschata requires a lot of warmth and is therefore better sown early.
Varieties with a ripening time of up to 110 days also do well in cooler regions.
Optimal germination: 24–30°C. Sow seeds with the pointed end downward or lay them flat. Do not keep them too moist. After germination, store them in a lighter, cooler spot.
For Longue de Nice we recommend 2–4 m² per plant.
Possible pests: snails, birds, mice, aphids, mildew, viruses.
