Selection from Japan, smaller and more even than Black Futsu.
Hidemi bears very attractive fruits that change color from dark green to brown. The plant grows poorly and should therefore be planted closer together.
The fruits are optimal at a weight of about 1–1.5 kg and the firm flesh has a nutty taste – even children eat it raw.
Hidemi is a previously unknown breed sent to us by a Japanese woman. We named it after her.
Maturation time: 100 days.
Ranking behavior: moderately ranking.
Cucurbita moschata needs a lot of warmth and is therefore best sown early. Varieties with a maturation time of up to 110 days also thrive in cooler regions.
Optimal germination: 24–30°C. When sowing, hold the pointed end of the seed downward or lay it flat. Do not keep the seed too moist. After germination, place it in a bright, cooler location.
The planting distance for pumpkins depends on the tendril behaviour.
Possible pests: snails, birds, mice, aphids, mildew, viruses.
