Beta vulgaris 'Avalanche' is a special white beet with a fine, delicate, and pleasantly sweet taste. Who says beets always have to be red? With its bright white color, 'Avalanche' is a surprising change for both the vegetable garden and the plate. An attractive variety for anyone who wants to grow something different from the traditional red beet.
The beautiful, round white beets have a mild and refined flavor and are sweeter than many red beet varieties. Young beets are excellent eaten raw, for example finely chopped or grated in a fresh salad. Naturally, 'Avalanche' can also be prepared in the same ways as regular red beets. Boiling, roasting, or incorporating into a variety of dishes: this white beet is versatile.
Sow Beta vulgaris 'Avalanche' directly into open ground from April to July. Sow thinly in rows and maintain a distance of approximately 25-40 cm between rows for beet cultivation. Within the row, a plant spacing of about 10 cm is ideal. After germination, thin the young plants to one strong seedling per planting site.
The young leaves can also be grown as cut-and-come-again lettuce. For this, maintain a distance of approximately 15-20 cm between rows and about 10 cm between plants. By sowing again regularly, young leaves can be harvested over a longer period.
White beets are ready for harvest relatively quickly. Allow approximately 60 to 70 days from sowing to harvest. For an extra fine and delicate flavor, the beets can also be harvested young.
