Description

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) Stupice – Very Early Czech Country Tomato

Tomato Stupice is a classic, early-ripening Czech country tomato known for its reliable, early harvest and robust growth. This variety combines flavorful, round fruits with a compact and productive plant, making it an ideal choice for both home gardeners and smaller commercial growers. With its potato-like leaves and vigorous growth, Stupice is a versatile tomato that can be grown both in the ground and in containers.

Very Early Harvest

Stupice tomatoes ripen exceptionally early, allowing growers to enjoy fresh, flavorful tomatoes right at the start of the season. This early harvest makes Stupice ideal for hobby gardeners looking for quick results, as well as for growers who want to extend their season or guarantee a continuous supply of fresh tomatoes.

Round, Red Fruits

Stupice tomatoes are round and bright red, with a diameter of about 5 cm. This size makes them suitable for a variety of uses, from salads and fresh consumption to light processing in sauces or stir-fries. The tomatoes have a traditional flavor typical of Czech farm tomatoes: aromatic, sweet, and full-bodied.

Potato Leaves for Robust Growth

Stupice is distinguished by its potato-shaped leaves, which contribute to robust, healthy plant growth. This leaf shape helps the plant with good air circulation and reduces the risk of fungal infections, making Stupice reliable and easy to maintain.

Compact Plant for Pot and Garden Cultivation

Stupice plants grow to about 130 cm tall, meaning they remain relatively compact and are therefore also suitable for containers and smaller gardens. Because of their limited height, the plants can easily be supported with stakes or ropes, keeping the harvest manageable and ensuring the fruits hang cleanly and securely.

Suitable for outdoor and protected cultivation

Although Stupice is primarily known for its outdoor cultivation, the plant also performs well in a greenhouse or sheltered environment. Under controlled conditions, the fruits ripen evenly and the plant maintains its healthy growth, contributing to a consistent harvest of high-quality tomatoes.

Culinary Application

The Stupice tomatoes are versatile and ideal for various applications:

  • Fresh consumption as a snack or in salads

  • Salads and lunchbox dishes

  • Light processing in sauces or stews

  • Decorative dishes thanks to the attractive size and bright color

Thanks to their early ripening, gardeners can enjoy these tasty, traditional tomatoes quickly.

Maintenance and Cultivation Advice

For optimal results, it's recommended to support Stupice plants with stakes or ropes and harvest regularly. The early-ripening nature of this tomato allows for a continuous harvest, and its compact size makes it easy to care for, even in pots or on balconies.

Conclusion

Tomato Stupice is a very early-ripening, robust Czech country tomato with round, bright red fruits of about 5 cm. Thanks to its compact, strong plants with potato-like leaves, Stupice is suitable for both outdoor and pot cultivation. Its early harvest, traditional flavor, and easy care make this variety ideal for gardeners who want to enjoy fresh, aromatic tomatoes quickly and are looking for a reliable, productive, and versatile tomato for their garden, greenhouse, or balcony.

Note

Semi-determinate/Indeterminate. The plant doesn't stop growing completely after a few trusses, but its growth is more limited than that of a true vine tomato. It certainly needs support (stake or cage), but is easier to manage than a tall climber. Because of its semi-determinate growth habit, the advice regarding suckering is more flexible. You can train the plant by supporting the most dominant main shoots and leaving the lower side shoots to form a larger, bushier plant.
