Description

OSU Blue – One of the first black-purple tomato varieties.

OSU Blue is one of the first black-purple tomato varieties to reach market maturity. The variety is named after its breeder, Oregon State University.

OSU Blue bears blackish-purple, glossy fruits weighing approximately 100 grams. The violet color comes from the high anthocyanin content, which has health-promoting effects.

The fruits are only ready for harvest when they turn red. This creates a particularly beautiful interplay of colors: red on the underside and blue on top.

Sow at 20–25°C from February to the end of March, then cultivate from February to April, transplanting into the ground after the last frost. Harvesting takes place from late July to September.

Tomatoes prefer sunny, sheltered locations. The soil should be loose, humus-rich, and nutrient-rich.

Tomato plants require a lot of water. Never water them with cold tap water. The water should be at least room temperature. Always ensure the leaves remain dry to reduce the risk of tomato rot.
