Description

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) 'Golden Currant': Highly Productive Yellow Wild Tomato with Hundreds of Fruits

The Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) 'Golden Currant' is a unique and extremely robust wild tomato known for its enormous productivity and exceptional disease resistance. This selection of a wild tomato variety produces hundreds of small, yellow fruits per plant and is therefore also known as a curly, berry, or currant tomato. Golden Currant is ideal for gardeners looking for a carefree tomato with a long and bountiful harvest.

Small fruits, big yield

Golden Currant produces numerous small, round tomatoes in generously filled clusters. The yellow, berry-like fruits have a fresh, slightly sweet tomato flavor and are perfect as a snack. A major advantage of this variety is that the tomatoes don't fall off the plant when ripe, making it easy to harvest them at your own pace.

Thanks to its wild origins, Golden Currant is extremely vigorous and productive. A single plant can produce literally hundreds of fruits throughout the season, without requiring intensive care.

Strong growth and minimal care

Golden Currant is distinguished by its resistance to tomato diseases, particularly brown spot disease and late blight (phytophthora). This makes the variety particularly suitable for outdoor cultivation, even in years with changeable and wet weather.

The plant has a free-growing, slightly creeping or shrubby habit and doesn't require tying or pruning. You can simply let it grow, making Golden Currant ideal for beginner gardeners, permaculture gardens, and organic vegetable gardens.

Golden Currant grows surprisingly well in a sufficiently large pot, making this tomato also suitable for balconies, terraces and patios.

Note

Indeterminate (trailing) and requires support. Because the plant grows so wildly and tall, it does require some guidance. You can train the plant by tying the main shoots to a trellis and leaving the most dominant side shoots for a larger harvest (it doesn't need to be strictly pinched out like other vine tomatoes).
