Ranunculus Butterfly™ Ariadne® is an exclusive ranunculus cultivar within the renowned Butterfly™ series. While traditional ranunculus is known for its many petals, Ariadne® distinguishes itself with its single layer of flowers. The result is an elegant, light, and refined look that is especially popular in modern floral arrangements, bouquet designs, and bridal work.

The petals feature a natural waxy coating, which creates a glossy finish and an impressively long vase life. This combination makes the Butterfly™ series unique within the professional cut flower assortment.

Cultivation information & professional guidelines

For optimal growing results, it's important to provide the right conditions. Because this variety is a cold-growing plant, it thrives in lower temperatures.

Location & growing conditions

• Cultivation temperature: cold cultivation, but keep frost-free.

• Flowering period: January – April (depending partly on climate and cultivation system).

• Cultivation period:

  • 8–12 weeks of growth

  • then approximately 10 weeks of flowering

• Plant density: 9 plants per m² (3 rows per growing bed).

• Preparing the tubers: Soak in lukewarm water for 3–5 hours for a faster and more even start.

The plant is relatively low-maintenance, but consistent moisture balance and slightly cool conditions are important for stem strength and flower quality. Do not top Ariadne® – do not prune.

Harvest advice

Harvest when the flower is open and the color is fully visible. At this stage, the vase life is optimal and the characteristic shine is beautifully displayed. The firm flower structure makes transport and processing easy.

Application in bouquets & arrangements

Thanks to its multiple blooms per stem, Ranunculus Butterfly™ Ariadne® is perfect for adding volume to a bouquet, without needing large quantities. The flower has a soft and romantic appearance, yet its wax coating gives it a glossy, modern finish – a rare combination.
