In May and June, Polemonium caeruleum blooms with funnel-shaped white flowers with bright yellow stamens.
The leaves are lance-shaped and are arranged in pairs next to each other like steps of a ladder, hence the name Jacob's ladder or ladder to heaven.
Jacob's ladder is suitable for borders or rock gardens, but prefers moist, sandy soil, preferably in a sunny to partially shaded spot. Polemonium caeruleum is very hardy and semi-evergreen.
