"Tall, dark, and handsome" describes this purple-leaved millet. Young plants have green leaves; direct sunlight causes the purple color. The plants are adorned with 20–30 cm flower spikes.
The stem and midrib of the foliage turn purple after about eight leaves have developed. The foliage turns dark purple when the plants are moved from the greenhouse to full sun.
The unripe flower spikes can be cut and used in spectacular floral arrangements. If left on the plant, the millet seed spikes attract birds that feed on the seeds.
Purple Majesty is very easy to grow and tolerates heat and low humidity well. Its purple leaf blades and flower spikes are clearly different from all other ornamental plants.
