Passiflora quadrangularis, commonly known as giant granadilla, is a climbing species in the passion flower family, native to the southern part of South America.
It is a vigorous, delicate, evergreen perennial climber with drooping red flowers, each surrounded by white and purple filaments.
The plant has smooth, heart-shaped, oval leaves, fragrant flowers and a large, oblong fruit up to 30 cm (12”) long, containing numerous seeds embedded in edible pulp.
Grown for its fruit, but also commonly used as an ornamental. It requires a minimum temperature of 8°C; in temperate climates, it should be grown under glass.
The plant has received the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society.
The giant passion flower is the largest of the passion flowers and can grow up to 15 meters per year.
