Description

Matthiola incana (Stock) Schnitt Blue – Elegant, fragrant cut flower in soft shades of blue

Matthiola incana , commonly known as stock flower or stock flower, is one of the most classic cut flowers, beloved worldwide for its rich clusters, elegant appearance, and intensely aromatic fragrance. The Schnitt Blue variety offers a unique addition to this assortment with its soft blue flowers and excellent cultivation characteristics. This selection was specially developed for professional cut flower growers and combines visual beauty, aroma, and reliability in a single, high-quality flower.

Selectable as a young plant

Double-flowered Matthiola (stock) can be selected from single-flowered plants by exposing seedlings with fully developed cotyledons to 5°C for about 3 to 5 days. At this point, the double-flowered seedlings will show a light green color, while the single-flowered seedlings remain dark green. After removal from the cold treatment, the double-flowered seedlings will appear yellow and chlorotic (light green/yellow due to a lack of chlorophyll) within 1 to 2 days, while the single-flowered seedlings remain firm and green. This cold treatment can be applied only once to selectable Matthiola plugs (young plants).

Soft blue tones with a refined look

Schnitt Blue 's flowers range from light blue to lavender and form dense, voluminous clusters. The subtle bluish hue lends a fresh and elegant look, making it perfect for modern bouquets, pastel combinations, and luxurious arrangements.

Blue exudes peace and serenity, making Schnitt Blue ideal for weddings, spring bouquets, table decorations, and event styling. The flower clusters are compact, richly filled, and retain their color intensity throughout their vase life, guaranteeing a long-lasting visual effect.

Intense, characteristic scent

One of the most prized qualities of pansies is their sweet, spicy fragrance, and Schnitt Blue is no exception. These aromatic flowers add an extra dimension to any bouquet and create a luxurious experience. This fragrance makes the variety ideal for bridal work, interior design, events, and luxury floral arrangements where aroma is a key element.

Strong, uniform stems

For professional cut flower cultivation, the quality of the stems is essential. Matthiola incana Schnitt Blue produces straight, sturdy stems 60 to 80 cm long. These stems excellently support the full flower clusters and ensure professional presentation in bunches, bouquets, and arrangements. Thanks to their uniform length and strength, the flowers are easy to handle and attractive to both wholesalers and retailers.

Excellent vase life

Schnitt Blue flowers have a reliable vase life. When cut and stored correctly, the flowers retain their color, texture, and fragrance for several days to well over a week. This makes Schnitt Blue particularly suitable for export, wholesalers, and florists who strive for minimal waste and maximum customer satisfaction.

Uniform growth and high double flower factor

Schnitt Blue is characterized by uniform and predictable growth. It blooms evenly and has a high percentage of double flowers, resulting in full, lush bunches. These characteristics make the variety easy to harvest and process, while maintaining consistent quality over multiple growing cycles.

Suitable for greenhouse and outdoor cultivation

Schnitt Blue grows well in both greenhouse and open-field cultivation, provided the climate is temperate. Stocks thrive in cool temperatures between 10 and 18°C. Well-drained, fertile soil and regular watering promote strong root development and healthy plant growth. This variety is particularly well-suited for spring and autumn cultivation, where quality and uniformity are essential.
