Lychnis chalcedonica, also known as the Maltese Cross or Jerusalem Cross, named after its cross-shaped summer flowers.
Originally from Russia, but brought to Europe by the Knights of Malta, it is a hardy species that produces clusters of brilliant scarlet orange flowers on sturdy stems, contrasting with bright green foliage.
A fantastic eye-catcher in a sunny garden, attracting a variety of bees and butterflies. Also excellent as a cut flower.
Grow in full sun in moist soil. Remove spent flowers to prolong flowering.
