Description

Lobelia speciosa Starship™ Blue – Early flowering, strongly branching Lobelia with strong blue flower spikes

Lobelia speciosa Starship™ Blue is a high-quality, modern variety from the Starship™ Series. This series is known for its excellent performance, early flowering, and uniform growth. Starship™ Blue stands out with its bright blue flowers, improved branching, controlled growth pattern, and very strong flower strength. The plant produces high-quality plugs, is easy to grow, and offers professional results in both annual and perennial production.

This variety is also taller than most other varieties in the Starship™ line and has striking green leaves, in contrast to the bronze leaf colors of other shades in the series.

Features of Lobelia speciosa Starship™ Blue

  • Plant type: perennial Lobelia

  • Height: 80–90 cm (taller than other varieties in the series)

  • Leaf color: fresh green

  • Flower color: bright blue

  • Inflorescence: long, dense, upright spikes

  • Flowering period: summer to autumn

  • Location: sun to partial shade

  • Soil: moist, humus-rich, evenly moistened

  • Plug cultivation: good germination and high plug yield

  • Uses: borders, flowerbeds, containers, combinations (annual & perennial)

Early flowering with enormous flower power

Starship™ Blue has been selected to bloom earlier than traditional Lobelia varieties. This cultivar therefore provides color early in the season and continues well into autumn.

The bloom consists of long, full flower spikes with intense blue lipped flowers that provide maximum contrast in both flower beds and perennial borders.

Improved branching and controlled growth pattern

This variety has improved branching, resulting in more flower stems per plant and a consistent, compact structure. The plant remains beautifully uniform and shows little stretch, even in warmer growing conditions.

The controlled growth pattern makes Starship™ Blue very suitable for professional cultivation:

  • stable growth

  • uniform pot filling

  • low failure rate

  • good connection between parties

Thanks to the reliable genetic properties, an end product of consistent quality is created.

Suitable for various container sizes

The Starship™ series is designed for flexibility and performs excellently in multiple pot sizes.
Starship™ Blue is ideal for:

  • 13 cm pots (5″)

  • medium-sized containers

  • large patio and garden pots

Thanks to its taller habit, this variety stands out visually in arrangements.

Excellent performance in both annual and perennial combinations

Although Lobelia speciosa is a perennial by nature, Starship™ Blue thrives in annual bedding combinations where plenty of colour and temperature tolerance are desired.

In addition, this Lobelia is robust enough to perform well as a perennial in borders and moist garden areas for a long time.

Likes warmth, moisture and humidity

Starship™ Blue thrives in warm, humid conditions. This makes it particularly suitable for:

  • warm summers

  • borders in full sun with sufficient water

  • damp garden areas and pond environments

  • humus-rich, permeable soil

An evenly moist soil produces the most beautiful and long-lasting flowering.

Attraction for butterflies and hummingbirds

The nectar-rich blue flowers are very attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds (in Europe, especially butterflies, hoverflies, and bees). The dense flower spikes provide a valuable food source for pollinators during the summer months.
