Although the original wild Lathyrus odoratus was a summer bloomer, varieties have been developed that can flower at different times of the year. This is influenced by day length, which varies by season and geographical location. As a rule of thumb, summer-flowering varieties need 12 hours of daylight to flower, spring-flowering varieties need 11 hours, and winter-flowering varieties only 10 hours.

This series can be grown in low light and cool greenhouse conditions.

The Spring Sunshine variety has different growth characteristics than regular sweet peas and therefore requires a slightly different cultivation method. Early growth is vigorous and continues through the winter, when low light levels normally severely restrict development for many weeks.

For example, seeds can be sown in December for spring production, or in May for autumn flowers.

This selection is more vigorous than other winter sweet pea varieties. It can produce about 5-6 flowers per stem.

Soak the seeds in lukewarm water for better germination.
