Gladiolus Indian Summer is a special large-flowered gladiolus with a warm and stylish color combination. The large flowers display beautiful nuances of plum red, brownish purple, and brownish red, giving them a warm, almost autumnal appearance. The official cultivar description mentions brownish purple and brownish red color tones. It is precisely this unusual color scheme that makes Indian Summer a striking presence among more traditionally colored gladioli.
The sturdy, upright flower stalks reach a height of approximately 110 to 120 cm. The proportion of stalk, leaf, and flower spike creates an elegant plant structure and beautiful vertical accents in the border. The main flowering period is July and August.
Plant the bulbs in the spring, preferably from April to June, in a warm and sunny location. Choose nutritious, well-draining soil and plant the bulbs approximately 7 to 10 cm deep with about 10 to 12 cm spacing between them. Planting the gladioli in groups creates an impressive effect during flowering.
Thanks to its warm color, Gladiolus Indian Summer combines perfectly with dahlias and other summer flowers. Cream, soft yellow, and pink create a subtle combination, while dark red and purple enhance the rich color palette.
Gladiolus Indian Summer is also an excellent cut flower. The long stems and large flowers give summer bouquets a luxurious and natural look. Cut the flower stems when the bottom flower begins to open so that you can enjoy them for a long time.
With its striking colors, stately growth, and excellent qualities as a cut flower, Gladiolus Indian Summer is a beautiful choice for borders, cutting gardens, and bouquets.
