Bedding plants are flowering plants planted in borders, containers, or garden beds. They are ideal for adding color and structure to your garden and are often used as decorative accents or in mass plantings.
There are many types of bedding plants:
Annual bedding plants: bloom for one season, such as petunia, begonia or marigold
Biennial bedding plants: bloom in the second year, such as hollyhocks
Perennial bedding plants: bloom every year, such as salvia or geranium
The best time is usually April to June, as soon as the risk of night frost has passed. In mild climates, some bedding plants can also be planted in the fall to cover the ground or for early spring blooms.
Most bedding plants aren't winter-hardy and die back after the first year. To ensure new blooms, you'll need to sow or plant them again every spring.
Remove wilted flowers (deadheading) to encourage new blooms
