Zucchini Caserta is a traditional, early, and high-yielding Italian zucchini variety that has been beloved by gardeners and chefs for decades. Originally selected in the 1940s, it has since become a classic standard in the zucchini world. Caserta is best known for its beautiful light green fruits with dark green stripes, its rich flavor, and its reliable growth under a variety of climatic conditions.
Caserta fruit has a characteristic and attractive marking: a pale green base with irregular, darker green longitudinal stripes. This makes the variety visually distinctive and perfectly suited for fresh market and stall sales.
The fruits are predominantly cylindrical, slightly widening towards the base. They are at their best when harvested at a length of 15–20 cm, with:
Very fine and tender flesh
Crispy texture
Mild, slightly sweet Italian flavour
Thin, soft skin that does not require peeling
Small seed chamber
Caserta courgettes are praised in the kitchen for their excellent culinary versatility and their beautiful presentation.
Cucurbita pepo Caserta is an early and vigorous grower with a compact, shrubby habit. The plants do not form tendrils, making them easy to maintain and well-suited for small and medium-sized gardens.
Early production – suitable for short summers
High yield throughout the season
Strong, robust plants with good tolerance to changing weather conditions
Suitable for open ground, tunnel and raised beds.
Rich in female flowers for consistent fruiting
Caserta performs particularly well in warm, sunny conditions, but is also known for its reliability in temperate climates.
Regular harvesting – every 2–3 days – leads to continuous production and prevents the fruits from growing too large.
