Popular variety with good taste.
Tuffy is an older, pure variety that, besides the many hybrid varieties, is still very popular for its exceptional taste.
It produces dark green, beautifully shaped acorn squashes on short vines that are popular for cooking and stuffing. The fruit weighs around 900 grams.
In the US, acorn squash is often halved and baked in the oven and served with syrup. Acorn squash reaches its peak flavor about two weeks after harvest.
Maturation time: 90 days.
Tuffy forms short tendrils.
C. pepo grows well in warm, well-drained soils. Sow early and plant out from late April or sow directly from early May.
Optimal germination occurs at 24–30°C. When sowing, place the pointed end of the seed downward or lay it flat. Do not keep the seed too moist. After germination, place it in a bright, cooler location.
For Tuffy we recommend 1–2 m² per plant.
Possible pests: snails, birds, mice, aphids, mildew, viruses.
