Cucurbita pepo Shenot Crowns Mixture is one of the most striking and beloved ornamental pumpkin mixtures in the Cucurbita pepo range. This special selection is known for its unique claw-shaped fruits, vibrant colors, and high uniformity. Shenot Crowns Mixture is ideal for fall decoration, flower arranging, arrangements, sales at harvest and autumn markets, and as a striking eye-catcher in the garden.
This colorful blend combines vigorous growth with a rich variety of shapes and colors. The result is a graceful ensemble that perfectly suits the growing demand for decorative pumpkins.
What makes Shenot Crowns mixture so special is its characteristic claw-shaped fruit. The pumpkins grow compactly and average about 12 centimeters tall, making them ideal as a decorative object.
The Shenot Crowns variety is known for its attractive color palette. The fruits are available in:
bright white
soft yellow to yellowish-orange
various shades of green
The colors are usually solid, creating a calmer, harmonious overall look when the pumpkins are used together. Thanks to their unique shape and natural color variations, the fruits are ideal for autumn arrangements, table decorations, shop displays, and interior decorations.
Although many Cucurbita pepo varieties are edible, the Shenot Crowns mixture is a true ornamental gourd and not suitable for consumption. The flesh is hard, fibrous, and bitter, but it's precisely this firm texture that makes the fruits extra durable as decorations.
They have a long shelf life – often several weeks to months – making them ideal for both residential and commercial applications.
Shenot Crowns mixture is known for its luxuriant vine growth. The plants grow widely and produce numerous small pumpkins throughout the season. This expansive growth pattern makes this variety ideal for spacious vegetable gardens, ornamental gardens, and large plots.
The vines also provide attractive ground cover and, with their large leaves, create a striking visual impact in the garden. By providing sufficient growing space, the plant can achieve high production with a beautiful spread of fruits.
With a ripening period of approximately 100 days, the Shenot Crowns mixture is a mid-season ornamental pumpkin variety. It develops its fruit evenly and reliably, making its harvest perfectly timed for the autumn season – ideal for seasonal decoration and market sales.
Like other Cucurbita pepo varieties, Shenot Crowns mixture grows best in warm, well-drained, and fertile soil. Two cultivation methods are possible:
Sow from the end of April and then plant out as soon as there is no more night frost.
Sow directly from early May, when the soil temperature has warmed up sufficiently.
For fast and healthy germination, a temperature of 24–30°C is ideal. Sow the seeds pointed side down or lay them flat on the soil. Keep the soil slightly moist but not wet – too much moisture can lead to mold growth.
After germination, it is important to place the young plants in a cooler, brighter spot to encourage compact, strong growth.
Because Shenot Crowns mixture grows very vigorously, it's wise to maintain a wide spacing between plants. In open ground, a distance of 1.5–2.5 meters per plant is often used, depending on the available space and the desired plant development. Space promotes air circulation, prevents fungal diseases, and ensures higher and better production.
