Retzer Gold, a selection from the motherland of gymnosperm varieties, Austria, was specially selected for this characteristic.
The seeds are quite easy to remove from the fruits, which weigh about 5 kg. They also make a beautiful decoration.
The pulp is not suitable for culinary use.
Maturation period: 90–100 days.
Retzer Gold ranks medium strong.
C. pepo grows well in warm, well-drained soils, pre-cultivated and planted out by sowing from late April or direct sowing from early May.
Optimal germination occurs at 24–30°C. When sowing, place the pointed end of the seed downward or lay it flat. Do not keep the seed too moist. After germination, place it in a bright, cooler location.
For Retzer Gold we recommend approximately 2–3 m² per plant.
Possible pests: snails, birds, mice, aphids, mildew, viruses.
