Cucurbita pepo Justify F1 PMT is an attractive, ribbed slicing squash distinguished by its deep orange color, sturdy stem, and uniform fruits. This powdery mildew-resistant variety (PMT) is ideal for ornamental use but can also be used to a limited extent in culinary applications. Justify F1 combines high ornamental value with reliable yields, making it an excellent choice for professional growers and enthusiastic hobbyists.
Justify F1 produces large, slightly round fruits weighing approximately 9 to 11 kg (20 to 24 lbs), perfect for Halloween, autumn decorations, and garden displays. The attractive ribbing and sturdy dark green stems ensure the fruits remain stable and durable, even when handled or moved for decoration.
Although this pumpkin is suitable for consumption, it is primarily valued for its ornamental value and uniformity. The variety is PMT powdery mildew-resistant, which keeps the plants healthy and allows them to bear fruit later in the season, ensuring a reliable harvest.
With a maturation time of approximately 100 days, Justify F1 is a mid-early to early large-fruited pumpkin, allowing for a consistent harvest for both professional and home growers. The uniform fruit size and shape ensure an attractive, consistent appearance in gardens, market stalls, and decorative displays.
The deep orange colour and sturdy stem also make the variety suitable for cutting and exhibition purposes, while the trailing growth ensures natural and robust plant development.
Justify F1 grows best in warm, well-drained soil, which promotes healthy plants and maximum fruit development. The pumpkin can be pre-grown and planted out from late April, or sown directly from early May.
For optimal germination, the ideal temperature is between 24–30°C. When sowing, it's important to place the pointed end of the seed downwards or flat and not to keep the seed too moist. After germination, the seedlings can be moved to a brighter, cooler location to help them grow strong and healthy.
Justify F1 grows as a vine, meaning the plants need sufficient space to climb and be well-ventilated. For optimal yield and healthy fruit development, we recommend approximately 2 square meters per plant. Despite its vine-like growth, the plant remains stable and easy to handle, ensuring uniform and attractively shaped fruits.
The Justify F1 is primarily a decorative pumpkin, ideal for autumn and Halloween decorations. Its size, sturdy stem, and attractive ribbing make it a real eye-catcher in gardens, market stalls, and exhibitions.
Although edible, the variety isn't specifically recommended for culinary purposes, as its flavor is less prominent than that of edible varieties. However, it can be used to a limited extent in soups or stews if you still want to use the fruit in cooking.
