Zappho is a unique variety among giant pumpkins. The plants grow bushily and bear an abundance of small, green fruits that can be harvested while still young. They are noticeably more aromatic than zucchini. Fully ripe fruits usually weigh less than 1 kg.
This variety originates in South America, where it is also known as Tronco Redondo . Zappho was bred from this variety in Germany. The fruits can also be used when ripe, for example, filled, but they do not keep for long.
Maturity time: young 50 days, ripe 80 days.
Zappho grows bushy/compact.
Cucurbita maxima are generally robust and provide excellent nutrition. This variety thrives in warm, well-drained soil.
Pre-sowing and planting: sow from the end of April or sow directly from the beginning of May.
Optimal germination: at 24–30°C. Sow seeds pointed side down or lay them flat. Do not keep them too moist. After germination, place them in a bright, cooler location.
Recommended planting distance: 1 m² per plant.
