The yellow hundred-pounder is an extremely popular ornamental pumpkin, for example, for front doors. Along with the Uchiki Kuri, it is considered Germany's most famous pumpkin. The flesh is known and prized for its sweet-and-sour pickling.

Cucurbita maxima are generally robust and provide excellent nutrition. This variety thrives in warm, well-drained soil.
Pre-cultivation and planting out by sowing from the end of April or direct sowing from the beginning of May.
Optimal germination occurs at 24–30°C. When sowing, place the pointed end of the seed downward or flatten it. Do not keep the seed too moist. After germination, place it in a bright, cool location.
The planting distance for pumpkins depends on the tendril behaviour.
Possible pests: snails, birds, mice, aphids, powdery mildew, viruses.
