Well-known, large gray-blue pumpkin.
Istanbul is a selection of the famous Turkish honey pumpkin.
The beautifully ribbed gray-blue fruits weigh between 8 and 12 kg.
The flesh is deep orange in colour and very popular in Turkish cuisine.
Istanbul requires a lot of space and a warm location for its strong growth and is only suitable for very warm regions.
Maturation time: 110 days.
Istanbul ranks strongly.
This variety grows well in warm, well-drained soils.
Pre-cultivation and planting out by sowing from the end of April or direct sowing from the beginning of May.
Optimal germination occurs at 24–30°C. When sowing, place the pointed end of the seed downward or flatten it. Do not keep the seed too moist. After germination, place it in a bright, cool location.
For Istanbul we recommend 3–4 m² per plant.
Possible pests: snails, birds, mice, aphids, powdery mildew, viruses.
