Sweet, yellow-fleshed watermelon.
Janosik is a highly prized, yellow-fleshed variety of Polish origin.
The dark green fruits have a nice size of 4–5 kg. The sweet, yellow flesh forms a beautiful contrast with the well-known pink or red-fleshed varieties such as Sugar Baby .
The success of the cultivation and the sugar content of the fruit depend on warmth and sun. Melons need a warm location.
The plants grow moderately and require approximately 1–2 m² per plant. Mulch is recommended.
In a warm summer the pulp contains more sugar than in a cool summer.
Sowing instructions: Sow indoors from early April at 24–28 °C, directly with 1–2 seeds per pot (do not keep the pots too moist), or outdoors from mid-May in a warm place.
Possible pests: aphids, mice, mildew, downy mildew and viral diseases.
