Very early, small watermelon with yellow skin.
One of the earliest watermelons is this American variety from 1959.
The yellow fruits weigh only 1 to 1.5 kg and contain red flesh with the typical aroma, but slightly less sweetness.
With a harvest starting just 70 to 75 days after sowing and a yellow colour that fully indicates ripeness, this compact variety is sure to be an asset to any garden.
The success of the cultivation and the sugar content of the fruit depend on warmth and sun. Melons need a warm location.
The plants grow moderately and require approximately 1–2 m² per plant. Mulch is recommended.
In a warm summer the pulp contains more sugar than in a cool summer.
Sowing instructions: Sow indoors from early April at 24–28 °C, directly with 1–2 seeds per pot (do not keep the pots too moist), or outdoors from mid-May in a warm place.
Possible pests: aphids, mice, mildew, downy mildew and viral diseases.
