Brassica rapa var. ruvo, better known as Rapini Namenia BIO, is a high-yielding, traditional leafy green with a rich history in European cuisine. This organic specialty is known for its tender leaves and soft stems and is a favorite in both salads and hot dishes. Rapini is a versatile vegetable that excels in both classic Italian recipes and modern Asian dishes.
Rapini Namenia BIO forms compact, dark green rosettes with tender, edible stems. The leaves are tender and slightly bitter, a quality appreciated in salads, sautéed in butter, or stir-fried. The tender stems can be used in cooking just like the leaves, allowing this vegetable to reach its full potential.
This variety is fast-growing and suitable for early harvesting. The first leaves can be harvested just 3–4 weeks after sowing. By sowing in small, successive batches, you can achieve a continuous harvest, ensuring fresh leaves are available throughout the season. When planted individually, the plants can grow to a size comparable to endive, offering additional harvest potential.
Rapini Namenia BIO can be pre-sown in a cold frame or sown directly outdoors. Pre-sowing is done from February to March, while direct sowing outdoors is possible from late March to early September. Sowing thinly in rows 10–15 cm apart gives the plants sufficient space for healthy development.
Harvest can take place approximately 3–4 weeks after sowing, depending on sowing distance and growing conditions. Multiple harvests are possible, especially when you harvest the plants at regular intervals. For greenhouse cultivation during periods of low light, it's important to keep the plants in a very bright location to maintain optimal foliage growth and flavor.
