Description

Brassica oleracea (Red cabbage) Davaro F1 – mid-early variety with consistent performance and broad applicability

Brassica oleracea 'Davaro F1' is a versatile and productive red cabbage distinguished by its strong growth, long field shelf life, and excellent yield. This mid-early variety is ideal for both hobby gardens and professional cultivation, offering flexibility in harvesting and use. Thanks to its robust characteristics, Davaro F1 is a reliable choice for those seeking quality and convenience.

Strong and versatile red cabbage

Davaro F1 is a mid-early variety known for its consistent performance and wide range of uses. The plants form firm, compact heads weighing approximately 2 to 2.5 kilograms. The intense purple color and fine texture make this cabbage attractive for both fresh consumption and processing.

What makes this variety special is the protective wax layer on the leaves. This natural layer helps protect the cabbage against external influences and contributes to a longer shelf life, both in the field and after harvest.

Excellent field durability

One of the biggest advantages of Davaro F1 is its good field shelf life. The heads can remain in the field for a long time without loss of quality, allowing for flexible harvesting. This is ideal for gardeners who do not want to process everything at once.

Moreover, with later planting, the cabbage has a short shelf life after harvest, until about mid-January. This makes Davaro F1 also suitable for those who want to build up a limited winter supply.

Harvest period and growth

The cabbage is ready for harvest approximately 95 days after transplanting. Depending on the sowing time, you can harvest from July through November. By sowing in stages, you can extend the harvest period and enjoy fresh red cabbage for several months.

This flexibility makes the variety particularly suitable for a continuous supply of vegetables from your own garden.

Cultivation and sowing

Pre-cultivation is recommended for successful cultivation. The sowing period runs from March to mid-June, at an ideal germination temperature of 15–20 °C.

After propagation, the young plants can be planted out in the open ground. Maintain a planting distance of 40 x 40 to 50 cm. This gives the plants sufficient space to form large, sturdy heads.

A sunny location and well-draining, nutritious soil are important for optimal growth.

Nutrition and care

Red cabbage is a heavy feeder (starkzehrers) and therefore requires rich soil with sufficient nutrients. Adding compost or organic fertilizer is essential for the proper development of the heads.

Regular watering, especially during dry periods, helps maintain even growth. Thanks to the strong characteristics of Davaro F1, this cabbage is relatively resistant to fluctuating conditions.

Use in the kitchen

Davaro F1 is a versatile vegetable that can be used in numerous dishes. Some popular uses are:

  • Boiled red cabbage as a classic side dish
  • Raw vegetables and salads
  • Stews
  • Fermentation and preserving

The firm texture and rich color make this cabbage both flavorful and visually appealing.

With Davaro F1 red cabbage, you choose a strong, productive, and versatile variety that delivers excellent performance both in the garden and in the kitchen. An ideal choice for a long-lasting harvest and a versatile, flavorful vegetable from your own garden.
