Description

Asphodeline lutea

Asphodeline lutea, also known as yellow daffodil or Jacob's staff, is a striking perennial that forms a real eye-catcher in the garden with its elegant growth habit and bright yellow bloom. The plant develops sturdy, upright stems branching from the base, with narrow, grey-green leaves. In late spring and early summer, long flower spikes appear with numerous star-shaped, golden-yellow flowers that add a sunny accent to borders and natural plantings.

This graceful perennial reaches a height of approximately 80 to 120 cm and combines an architectural appearance with airy flowering. The upright flower stalks are richly covered with bright yellow flowers that open gradually, ensuring the bloom remains attractive for a long period. Furthermore, the flowers attract many bees, bumblebees, and butterflies, thus contributing to a biodiverse and insect-friendly garden.

Asphodeline lutea thrives best in a sunny location in well-drained, dry to moderately moist soil. The plant is highly resistant to heat and drought once well-rooted. This makes it particularly suitable for Mediterranean gardens, prairie plantings, rock gardens, and sunny borders. Thanks to its sturdy stems, the plant stands upright without support.

In addition to its ornamental value, Asphodeline lutea is also a low-maintenance perennial. After flowering, the spent flower stalks can be removed, while the decorative foliage continues to add structure to the garden for a long time. Thanks to its elegant form, this plant combines beautifully with ornamental grasses, Salvia, Nepeta, Echinacea, and other sun-loving perennials.

Are you looking for a special perennial with stately growth, striking yellow flowers, and a natural appearance? Then Asphodeline lutea is an excellent choice for sunny borders and dry gardens.
